a lamp made of architectural salvage

Maker of the Month – November

Congratulations to November’s “Maker of the Month”, Kip Gomez!

Kip G.

For this funky, upcycled floor lamp, Kip used an older water heater and combined it with a fan from an old swamp cooler.

Here’s the story of Kip’s creation his own words:

“This is a floor lamp that I put together. I found this old water heater and a blower fan from a swamp cooler on a pick in the desert. They were in separate areas on the same property but just seemed to belong together. So, I added an old carburetor and water faucet for interest, and it had a new life.”

“I put in new wiring and light socket with an on/off touch sensor so you can touch it anywhere and it will come on. Touch it again, and it gets brighter. You do that three times for brightness and on the fourth touch, it goes off. Wha Laa!! Then, I topped it off with a large Edison bulb.”

We have loved supporting the Maker Community through this Maker of the Month contest. The creativity out there is truly inspiring! We look forward to the next iteration, and keep doing what you’re doing!

Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us and the rest of the world, Kip.  Enjoy your new KEEN Utility boots!
